Cullen report backs more environmental taxes

GREATER environmental taxes and strengthening of the Emissions Trading Scheme are on the way if the Government adopts recommendations from its Tax Working Group.
In its final report, which has just been released, the group says there is “significant scope” for taxes to play a greater role in protecting and enhancing New Zealand’s natural capital and calls for a carbon charge on greenhouse gas emissions from farming.
