Coastal councils face billions in sea damage

BILLIONS OF DOLLARS worth of council-owned infrastructure is at risk from rising seas, says a new Local Government New Zealand report.
The document, released today, is the first to attempt to quantify the financial risk of sea-level rise to local authorities. It puts the direct cost to councils at up to $14 billion if seas rise 3m.
