Maori landowners back use of older forests

IWI INVOLVED IN the Treelords settlement are backing calls for extra carbon stored in old and indigenous forests be recognised.
The Maori owners of vast areas of pre-1990 forests received only a one-off allocation of 18 carbon credits per hectare, but face billions of dollars in liability if the lands are deforested.
