ClimCom could make methane call, says Treasury

TREASURY has suggested the Government delay setting a 2050 emissions reduction target, saying giving the decision to the yet-to-be-established climate commission would allow more time to decide by how much methane emissions should be reduced.
But climate officials say that including methane in the net-zero target is the only option with strong scientific backing and which strongly meets New Zealand’s Paris Agreement emissions reduction targets.
