We can use organic waste, says landfill operator

KEEPING ORGANIC waste out of rubbish dumps will double its carbon footprint and deny the country an important source of renewable energy, says the country’s largest landfill operator.
Waste Management – one of 53 major companies backing the Government’s Zero Carbon Bill – says that electricity generated from the methane produced on landfills has an important part to play in the country’s drive towards 100 per cent renewable electricity generation, but is threatened by plans to keep organic waste out of tips.
