Hot summer leads to higher energy emissions

NEW ZEALAND'S greenhouse gas emissions from energy were up in the first three months of this year compared to the same time last year – with record temperatures meaning less water was available for hydro-electric generation.
“January was the hottest month on record, and the snowpack disappeared two months earlier than usual,” Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment energy and building trends manager James Hogan said in a statement.
