PACIFIC ALUMINIUM – whose parent company Rio Tinto threatened to leave New Zealand if a carbon price was introduced – is now a fan of the Emissions Trading Scheme.
The Tiwai Pt aluminium smelter operator says the scheme should be the country’s main tool for cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and rejects suggestions that New Zealand has lacked climate policy certainty.
