Emitters can keep stashed free carbon credits

TRADE-EXPOSED heavy emitters sitting on free NZUs from taxpayers will be able to keep using them - even if they did contribute to New Zealand’s embarrassing “dodgy credits” incident.
The previous government came in for sharp criticism for using environmentally questionable international carbon credits to meet New Zealand’s first emissions reduction target (to hold emissions at 1990 levels) under the Kyoto Protocol.
