VOLCANIC eruptions and climate change have been linked to periods of social unrest and the eventual downfall one of Ancient Egypt's most famous dynasties.
The prosperity of the Ptolemy pharaoh dynasty (305–30 BCE), which ended with the death of Cleopatra, was closely linked to the river Nile, as the river's summer floods were essential to the region's agriculture.
