Ministers eye ways to beat mines planning rules

THE GOVERNMENT has been looking at approving new coal mines by creating special economic zones bypassing usual planning rules, Forest & Bird says.
The environmental organisation has released papers it received under the Official Information Act that detail proposals to fast-track approvals for coal mines on conservation land and other “significant regionally led investments and developments”.
