Defence Minister Gerry Brownlee says the Government is making every effort it can to cut New Zealand’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Green Party co-leader James Shaw asked Brownlee in Parliament yesterday to explain the “gulf” between the United States Defense Department, which had declared climate change an urgent and growing threat to national security, and his own Government, which, Shaw said was spending $20 billion on new military equipment but “virtually nothing” on reducing greenhouse-gas emissions.
