'We hear you,' Govt tells worried manufacturers

THE COUNTRY'S largest building company is calling for tariffs to protect local manufacturers from unfair competition from imports with higher carbon footprints – and the Government says it is listening.

Currently, emissions-intensive trade-exposed emitters are liable for only 10 per cent of their emissions, in recognition of the fact that most of their international competitors are not subject to carbon pricing.
