Tyre burner cements in emissions cuts

GREENHOUSE gas emissions at New Zealand’s only cement-manufacturing plant will be cut by 13,000 tonnes a year – and it’s all down to tyres.

Environment Minister David Parker will today officially open a new tyre-burner that will reduce the amount of coal used at Fletcher Building’s Golden Bay Cement plant in Whangarei.
