Stretched officials making mistakes, say emitters

NZ Steel's unique process turns iron sands into steel - and doesn't use a blast furnace.

 

HEAVY INDUSTRY is calling for a slowing of the Government’s climate programme in the face of what it says are dangerous errors in officials’ advice.

“Officials are making assumptions about the ability of New Zealand Steel to reduce its emissions through increased efficiency of its blast furnace, but New Zealand Steel does not have a blast furnace,” the Major Electricity Users’ Group says in its latest update to members.
