EXTRA DEMAND for electricity as the country’s economy decarbonises needs to be co-ordinated if the system is to cope, MPs have heard.

Wellington Electricity, the country’s fourth-largest electricity distribution company, says having thousands of electric vehicles being charged at 6pm every night is its worst nightmare.
