Firms made closure threats over 1:2 subsidy change

Four companies threatened to close if the Government removed the one-for-two carbon subsidy.

It was announced in the Budget in May that the subsidy, introduced in 2009 and requiring emitters to surrender just one carbon credit for every two tonnes of liable emissions, would be phased out over three years.
