Europe's airline rules stir controversy

The European Union’s Emissions Trading Scheme has now included aviation in its emissions reduction sectors in a move fraught with controversy and disagreement.
The current system requires all airlines using European airports to buy permits under the Emissions Trading Scheme to offset their flight emissions.
