Scientists blame poor soil for carbon limits

ISSUES LIKE POOR soil fertility are limiting the ability of mature forests to store carbon and help reduce climate change, scientists say.

New Zealand has 7.8 million hectares of established native forests, covering 29 per cent of the country and thought to store around six million tonnes of carbon a year.
