National Party applauds farmers' pine protest

The National Party says it supports farmers who marched on Parliament yesterday demanding a halt to the planting of carbon forests on productive farmland.

The protest coincided with the presentation of an 11,000-signature petition to Parliament calling on MPs to oppose any reforms of the Emissions Trading Scheme that encourage the large-scale conversion of farmland to forestry.
